All our products are handmade and, fortunately, easy to maintain. However, we still love to give you advice to enjoy your product as long as possible.

Many products from the Fair Fabrics collection are made of wool. Wool has a natural dirt-repellent effect, which comes from the oily layer on the hide of the sheep. Vacuum clean woollen products regularly with the floor head. Never use the rotating brushes for this. Airing wool outdoors will keep it fresh.

Cleaning a woollen product should be your last resort. Use a slightly moist rag to dab the stain. Do not rub it. Alternatively, hang your product outside on a misty day or in a damp bathroom. Or spray the stain using a plant spray.

Use very little soap and hand-wash at no more than 30 degrees Celsius. Do not let it soak; otherwise the wool will become matted. Instead of wringing it, squeeze it to get the water out. Afterwards, rinse well and make sure all soap residue is gone. In winter you can clean a woollen rug by placing it on the snow. Not too long or otherwise the fibres will freeze. In all cases, dry the wool carefully.

If necessary, have a specialist clean your woollen product, for example a dry cleaner. Please always tell it is made of wool.

Pottery and glass

Our pottery can be put in the oven, microwave and dishwasher.

Table linnen

You can wash the table linen that is available through the NRC Handelsblad web store in the machine at a maximum of 60 degrees (delicate wash program). After the first wash there will be a maximum of 2% shrinkage. Do not bleach, do not spin, and preferably wash separately.

If you wash by hand, do not wring or brush. For any stains it is best to soak first.

In general, felt can be cleaned in the same way as wool. Still, felt may pill, but this is not related to the quality of the wool that was used. A little ‘counter-pilling’ does no harm.

Cotton and silk

Our cotton and vegetable silk products are handwoven. Best is to wash these as little as possible. Clean out stains by dipping them with a damp rag; do not scrub or rub. If necessary, wash the product separately on 30 degrees Celsius with a minimal amount of laundry powder. Do not use fabric softener or bleach, and do not put it in the tumble dryer.
